Technology and Geometry

Technology and Geometry

Mathematics has always been a subject that was absolutely necessary for the continuous development of workouts. Despite these workouts have always been developed in a traditional way, paper and pencil, nowadays we are able to find many different resources that allow students to carry out these exercises but from a more didactic way.

Geometry is a field of mathematics in which students study the characteristics of the figures in a plane or space. Its definition seems to be quite abstract for students, therefore, it is one of the most difficult subjects for students.

Nevertheless, we are lucky to have the chance to use technology resources that make it easier for students to understand this subject.

How important are technology resources in geometric lessons?

Technology allows learners to see and interact with geometric concepts. They can explore and search through games, simulations and digital tools. As a matter of fact, technology provides students with the chance to achieve a more customized learning experience.  We must bear in mind the students learn in many different ways, therefore, technology provides students with individual content and support that may fully fill their educational needs.

Learners can watch lessons, tutorials, screencasts and other media sources on their own and at the moment they consider them more suitable for them. If students are learning a new concept and they have forgotten any step or definition they could come back to those technological sources and refresh those previous ideas.

What is remarkable from these resources is that students have found challenges on them, so it means that they will be achieving a better learning development.

Having said that, I will like to share with you three different apps that could be beneficial for your students while learning geometry in primary education. But, we must remember that you can not let students use it without previous instruction. You as their teacher must guide

Artric

This APP gives the chance to watch and manipulate a huge variety of geometric figures in 3D, moreover, students can work in an intuitive way.

In the section on “Learning” / “Aprender”, you could manipulate, project, different polyhedrons. Moreover, you will be able to find the characteristics of each shape/figure just clicking “More information” / “ Saber más”.

NaN Geometría

Geometría is an APP that has the most advanced geometric problem solutions. For each theme, teachers have a complete solution for all the problems it gathers. Furthermore, not only students but also teachers can take advantage of it. Students could work out these problems by using different ways such as algebraic fractions, elements or difficulties. In addition, you can use brackets, decimal numbers and number PI.

Geometry Mathematics

Geometry Mathematics provides the closest view of euclidean geometric concepts. Students from any level can learn about geometric figures, expressions and other important parameters including their own equations. For instance, perimeter, area, volume and other important sizes.

Moreover, it explains Pythagoras theorem for the rectangle triangle.

REMEMBER!

APP do not exclude the role of a teacher so don't separate you from your students!

Welcome!

WELCOME!  Hello you! I'm Clara María and this is my blog Discovering the different faces of Geometry. First of all, I would like to tell you what my blog is going to be about. The first thing is that in this blog you will discover how geometry takes part in our daily life, however, I will like to focus on different disciplines that involve as many subjects as you can imagine and also in some aspects that you have never thought you could find geometry.  My aim is to share with you not only information but also resources that we can use together in order to create motivating and interesting geometry lessons.  This is the beginning of  I hope a great journey. I warm you if you are not an open-minded person and don't want to change your mind about this theme, please give it a try you won't regret it.  Are you ready?

Discovering Sacred Geometry

Today, we are going to talk about one topic which is more than an essential part of the yoga discipline, I’m talking about Sacred Geometry. Why is this topic related to this discipline? Well, I will tell you that thanks to this geometry system, we are able to achieve a state of calm and peace that is part of one of the multiples of the benefits that yoga provides us. But, let's first introduce this term and discover what is behind it. Sacred geometry can be defined as a collection of geometric shapes and specific geometry proportions. It is related to the belief that God is the geometer of the world. This geometry has been used in many religious constructions, for instance, churches, altars or mosques. It is remarkable to say that we all take part in this geometry since our brains are the main protagonist of its development. Sacred Geometry, allows that both hemispheres connect between each other, the left and the right part, helping us to achieve our objective since we could be ab...

Geometry is inclusive

Geometry is inclusive Today I would like to talk about teaching geometry to students with special needs. Along with the years, education has been able to develop resources that help students with diversity to keep up with the rest of their classmates.  For this reason, I consider it is more than important to learn some adaptation that we might introduce in our geometry lessons in order to be equitable and respectful with all the students.  There are different ways of capturing and representing geometry objects. It is when we face a new situation we all mostly use our visual skills to identify that object or situation, therefore, these new images are progressively adapting in our brain until they form a real image.  For students that might have some issues with this visual problem, there is a programme called Frostig which provides 25 ac tivities to work and develop visual-motor skills, shape and background perception, the position on the space, space relationships...
